La Mercè Festival

The BCNLIP Foundation, along with BCNLIP Language School, participated in the 2024 edition of the La Mercè Festival with a series of artistic and civic interventions under the name Ecos de Barcelona. This activity, held at Plaça de la Mercè in the Gothic Quarter, allowed us to reflect on the city from the perspective of those who, beyond tourism, move to and live in Barcelona—especially those, like our students, who are in the process of integration through language learning.

In Ecos de Barcelona, BCNLIP students shared their experiences through short phrases, printed on bookmarks that were distributed throughout the neighborhood, inviting passersby to take a piece of these voices, so they would resonate throughout the city.

We also expanded this reflection with theater and music. We had two performances from Teatro Lambe Lambe: Myrmekodia by the Ola Muchin company and Mamistik by Mansa Bruja, where small objects and puppets were used to create brief stories inside a box. Each show, no longer than 5 minutes, provided a unique and intimate experience for each viewer.

On the other hand, cellist Pepe Arias presented Sueños de Viajes, a show that fused various music genres, such as pop, rock, classical music, electroacoustic, and folk music, accompanied by projections of the phrases written by our students.

Finally, in recognition of the diverse needs of the community, the BCNLIP Foundation offered a quiet space for people with auditory hypersensitivity, called BCNDesconecta. Located at the BCNLIP Language School headquarters at Plaça de Medinaceli, this space provided calm for those who needed it.
